Hello
About
The creative mind behind Threaded Journeys is Esther who hails from South Africa and has spent a lifetime knitting and traveling throughout the globe. Esther was born in the United States to South African parents and moved to South Africa at the age of six. She completed her primary, secondary, and tertiary education there and holds a master’s degree in Occupational Therapy. Esther currently resides in Virginia, USA, where she works as an Occupational Therapist at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital.
Drawing on her deep connection to South Africa and her passion for creativity and community, Esther curates Threaded Journeys—a series of fiber retreats that immerse guests in South Africa’s vibrant landscapes, artisan traditions, and lesser-known cultural treasures. Each retreat offers a unique opportunity to connect, create, and experience the country through its rich textile heritage.
When she’s not knitting, Esther enjoys traveling with her husband, reading biographies, and indulging in her love of true crime —especially anything on Investigation Discovery, BritBox, or starring Nicola Walker.

Extraordinary Experiences
Esther has been on many knitting retreats that span the good, the bad, and the ugly. So she strives to replicate the good trips that cultivate higher quality and more relaxation with less drama. May you bring your peace, joy, and knitting fun to contribute to a boutique group experience while enjoying South Africa.
